las casas filipinas de acuzar pt. ii



I remember this was the day before my birthday. I woke up early in the morning and wasted no time marinating myself in the bed to roam around this heritage park. I specifically loaded a Portra in my camera because I thought the subtlety would be perfect for this place even though it was my first time to shoot with it. And boy, was I not wrong.

More about Las Casas:
Spread over 400 hectares, the park features a collection of 27 Spanish Colonial buildings and stone houses (bahay na bato in Tagalog), planned to resemble a settlement reminiscent of the period. These houses were carefully dismantled, brick by brick, transplanted from different parts of the Philippines and rehabilitated in these premises, to resemble the original structure. For parts that were missing, woodwork and bricks were replicated to resemble the original structure. For this, the Ciudad employs a workforce of 130 people, including 10 wood sculptors, three metal sculptors, 30 craftsmen who design ceilings, and construction workers. There are also five architects, two of whom are historical architects, and two artists.
The resort also has a restaurant, a beach, calesa rides and a swimming pool. The resort plans to house 50 such heritage houses.

malacca: mille crepe cakes by nadeje

I had been craving for cake for a while. A few days back, I was sitting in the office suffering a case of PMS, when I thought "Screw this, I'm going out to get some cake because my uterus and I both deserve it!" (said no one ever... out loud). And so I escaped for a few minutes to take refuge in a nearby Starbucks.

That probably isn't the best introduction for a dessert, but I was surprised to find a chocolate crepe cake in their chiller because I did not know such heavenly creation exists -- until I went to Malacca.


The one by Starbucks was enough to satisfy a craving, but the ones I've tasted in Malacca are exquisite.. both in presentation and taste. Say hello to mille crepe cakes by Nadeje.

How they manage to keep a consistent stack of thinness, I absolutely have no idea (fairy magic, perhaps?). I'm compelled to go back to Malacca just to experience this again.
